William S. Webster

William Webster, born in Akron, Ohio, earned three varsity letters in soccer and lacrosse and was co-captain of both teams during his senior year. In 1960, Webster made the All-Ohio soccer team at center halfback. He was named to the All-Midwest lacrosse first team and All-America honorable mention team as a midfielder in 1961. Webster was also selected to play for the south team in the North-South All-Star Lacrosse Game in 1961. A chemistry and zoology major, Webster graduated from Oberlin in 1961. Webster went on to earn his D.V.M. at the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University in 1965, where he was president of his senior class. He earned his M.S. in laboratory animal medicine from Wake Forest University, Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1969. From there, he went back to Ohio State to earn his Ph.D. in veterinary pathology in 1973. His academic honors include Society of Phi Zeta, (1964), and Pfizer Veterinary Scholastic Award (1964). Since 1973, Webster has held various professorships at Ohio State University and the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He was a lecturer at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine and since 1981 has been a member of the Graduate Faculty at the School of Biomedical Sciences at UMass medical school. He is currently the chair of the department of animal medicine at UMass medical school.
