A four-time NCAA national qualifier, Doug Spindler is among the greatest swimmers in Oberlin College history.

A dominant sprinter in the Ohio Athletic Conference, he won the conference championship in the 50-yard freestyle three times and the 100-yard freestyle once. Spindler also swam anchor on the 400-yard free relay, 800-yard free relay, and 400-yard medley relay and finished his illustrious career as a five-time OAC Champion.

A former school record holder, Spindler's performances at nationals would have made him a three-time All-American using today's current qualifying standards, missing in three events by a combined 19-hundredths of a second.

Spindler qualified for the finals at the OAC Championship in all 24 events he swam throughout his career and recorded 17 top-three finishes.

The epitome of a scholar-athlete, Spindler was well respected as a leader within the program. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, he went on to do graduate work at the University of Akron and the University of Houston.

A published author on the subjects of geophysics and artificial intelligence, Spindler began his career in the oil industry before switching career paths to become the lead IT architect at Alcoa from 2001-17.
