Delfon McSpadden (Curlpepper) earned 12 varsity letters as a member of the football, indoor track and outdoor track teams.
One of the most celebrated sprinters to compete for the Yeomen, McSpadden, was a five-time North Coast Athletic Conference champion and was named the 1990 NCAC Indoor Sprinter of the Year. He was the NCAC's indoor champion in the 60-yard dash in 1989, 1990 and 1991, and he won the conference outdoor title in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes his junior year. McSpadden was named All-NCAC in outdoor track five times and All-NCAC in indoor track eight times.
While at Oberlin, McSpadden either owned or co-owned six school records and he still holds the Oberlin record for the indoor 300-yard run with a mark of 32.58 seconds. He was named captain of the track team in 1990 and 1991 and most valuable sprinter in 1989, 1990 and 1991.
A defensive back on the football team, McSpadden was fifth on the team with 44 tackles and had two interceptions as a senior. His junior year he finished tied for the team lead with seven passes defensed.
A politics major at Oberlin, McSpadden is chief executive officer of McSpadden Enterprises. He and his wife, Leisa, live in Brownstown, Michigan, with their two children, Delfon Jr. and Lauryn.
