Robert P. Eshelman won three varsity letters in track and field and was named captain in his senior season when he tied the Ohio Conference record in the 100-yard dash and won the 220 to help Oberlin compile 5 points to outdistance 17 "Big Six" rivals. The Cleveland newspapers dubbed him "Oberlin's Overland Express." Eshelman lost just one race in his Oberlin career occurring in his sophomore season.
