Hall of Fame
Sam Cooper came to Oberlin as a Glen Gray Scholar. He played football for the Yeomen and captained the '35 squad. Cooper earned his M.S. degree in physical education from New York University in 1939 and his Ph.D. in education administration from Western Reserve in '55. He spent 29 years as a professor of physical education at Bowling Green State University (1946-1975) and retired as chairman of the Health and Physical Education department. While at BGSU, Cooper was active in coaching the ice hockey team and swim team. He was recently inducted into the BGSU Hall of Fame and was the principal architect of the Heisman Hall of Fame at Oberlin.
