STEVE STITT, CLASS OF 1968, Steve Stitt became Oberlin's first All-American swimmer in 1968 when he finished 11th at the NCAA Championships in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.8. A native of Austin, Texas, Stitt was a six-time Ohio Athletic Conference champion, winning the 200 freestyle in 1965, 1966, and 1968; the 500 freestyle in 1965 and 1966; and the 1000 freestyle in 1967. Stitt held most of the varsity records in the freestyle events, from the 100 through the 1000. He also set the school record in the 200 individual medley in 1967, and was a member of the school-record 400 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. After Oberlin, Stitt earned an LLD degree and is currently a practicing attorney in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
