Margaret Erikson exemplifies dedication and love for Oberlin athletics. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in physical education from Oberlin in 1962, she traveled to Palo Alto, California, to teach physical education at Cubberley High School.
Over the course of the next two decades, Margaret and her husband, Heisman Hall of Fame inductee John, began a trek back to Oberlin.
In 1982, Margaret started a career at the College that would span 23 years, until 2005. As Director of Alumni On-Campus Activities, she was actively involved in multiple facets of the Alumni Association and oversaw numerous commencement and reunion weekend celebrations. In 2007, the Alumni Association awarded Margaret the Alumni Medal, which recognizes outstanding and sustained service to Oberlin College.
As a member of the John W. Heisman Club since 1978, Margaret has been an active supporter of Oberlin athletics. She helped to organize the 100-year celebration of Yeomen football in 1991 as well as the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Women’s Intercollegiate Sports in 2000. Since 2004, Margaret has been a member of the Heisman Club Honors/Historical Committee, which involves the Hall of Fame selection process and participation in archival projects relating to Heisman Club history. She has been an at-large member of the Heisman Club Executive Board since 2006.
Margaret and John remain staples for the Heisman Club and Oberlin athletics at-large with an extra special place in their hearts for the men’s and women’s tennis programs
