Professor Richard 'Dick' Levin was an academically renowned teacher in the department of biology from 1968-2003 and was respected and beloved by his students. Levin was a staunch supporter of Oberlin College athletics and a strong voice among the faculty. He continuously stressed the importance of a well-rounded liberal arts education and was adamant that athletics was a key part of it. Levin, who served on many athletics committees like the GFAC (General Faculty Athletics Committee) during his tenure, supported student-athletes by attending countless contests, recitals, and other performances. He and his wife, Amy, also opened up their home to numerous student-athletes for dinner and conversation on many occasions. Levin was instrumental supporting men's sports while champing the birth of women's sports on campus during the Title IX era.
