George Willbond founded the first soccer team at Oberlin College in 1926 and coached the team to a successful 61-32-11 record and .652 winning percentage. While at the helm of the program, Willbond led the team to four undefeated seasons and a sweep of teams like Ohio State, Illinois, and Western Reserve. During the Oberlin Alumni Dinner in 1950, Willbond was presented with an official Oberlin College Varsity 'O' , and dubbed 'Sir George, knight of the Golden 'O' for his dedication and accomplishments with Oberlin Soccer. He led the famed Cleveland Shamrocks to a championship in his personal playing career before being named the #1 player in America in 1929.
