Box Score Oberlin, Ohio- Getting their 2023 season started under new head coach Lori Shulman, the Oberlin College women's tennis team took on No. 11 Carnegie Mellon at home on Saturday morning. The team fell 8-1 but with young talent and a new coach, the team looks to grow throughout the season.
 
In the double competition, Marta Laska and Anna Pastore took the No.1 spot where they fell 8-0 to CMU's Danna Taylor and Crystal Zhou, who are ranked #7 in the country. Lydia Zafeiri and Dina Nouaime competed in the No. 2 slot where they also fell to Carnegie Mellon, 8-5. With only four athletes, the team had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles to go down 3-0 ahead of the singles matches.
 
In the top singles match, Laska battled with Danna Taylor but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-4. Pastore faired similarly in the No. 2 slot, dropping her match 6-0, 6-4 as the Tartans secured their victory. Against the 16th-ranked Manuela van Cotthem, Nouaime marked a statement victory, taking down her opponent 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. In the final matchup, Zafeiri fell in the No. 4 slot 6-1, 6-3 as Carnegie Mellon took the 8-1 victory.
 
Tennis takes the court again next weekend as they host Hope College on Saturday, February 18. The first serve is set for 10am.
