Granville, Ohio – Friday, the Oberlin College women's tennis team passed the Quarterfinal round of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament. They beat Ohio Wesleyan 4-0 to raise their record to 14-5.
Having just played the Battling Bishops last Sunday, Oberlin made sure to keep up the pressure in doubles and took the point with two victories at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles. Stella Kollmansberger and Olivia Wollner smoothly turned a 2-2 tie to a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. Rachel Allen and Scarlett Kingston did the same, finishing just minutes after on court 2. Freya Rahm and Hannah Soong found themselves down 4-2, fighting with Mallory Hannan and Lily Hershey. They split the next four games, ending at a 6-4 loss on court 1.
With the doubles point in their grasp, the Crimson and Gold proceeded to singles play. While rain kept the matches indoors and limited play to four at a time, Oberlin embraced the conditions and took the first three singles points. Allen took a fast 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles, finishing first for Oberlin. Kollmansberger had a one-sided match, making sure to keep Hannan down in a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. To clinch, Eva Lopez took a big lead against her opponent, 6-0, 2-0, trading the next seven games in a back-and-forth duel until she came out on top 6-0, 6-3. Kingston's singles was halted while she had the lead, 6-1, 3-1.
"We all had great energy and really wanted to win, so it was a lot of fun!" said Rahm.
Up next, Oberlin will face the No. 1 seed, Kenyon, in the NCAC Semifinals. The match will begin tomorrow, Saturday, May 2, at 11 a.m.
