Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's team battled for 40 minutes, but couldn't quite get over the hump as it fell to the Allegheny College Gators 70-54 on Wednesday night at Philips Gym.

First-year Andrew Fox continued his impressive rookie season with a team-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Sophomore Dahsan Gary was the only other Yeoman in double figures as he matched a career-best with 10 points.

Oberlin (6-16, 2-11 NCAC) really hurt itself with 23 turnovers, which led to 23 Allegheny points. The Yeomen also lost the rebounding war 34-26.

“We need to do a better job of holding onto the ball and executing our offense,” Head Coach Isaiah Cavaco said. “We let them take us out of rhythm and that is what cost us tonight.”

The Yeomen jumped out an early 6-0 lead, but Allegheny (12-9, 9-4 NCAC) bounced back to take an 18-12 lead with 11:47 left in the first half. The Gators' Donte Briscoe would cash in two of his 13 points just before the horn to give his team a 36-28 cushion at the break.

Allegheny scored the first bucket of the second half to secure its first double-digit advantage of the game, but James Tompsett's second 3-pointer of the season was followed by a layup by Gary to get the Yeomen within three, 38-35, at the 16:22 mark. Unfortunately, the Gators quickly built their lead back up to 11 and kept the Yeomen no closer than seven points to rest of the way.

Oberlin shot 44.9-percent (22-of-49) from the floor, but was just 1-of-7 (14.3%) from long range. However, the Yeomen did cash in 9-of-10 free throws on the night. The Gators finished at 44.4-percent (24-of-54) overall and shot 42.1-percent (8-of-19) from beyond the arc.

The Yeomen will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when they travel out west to Wabash College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
