Smith Delivers Career-High in Road Victory at Wilmington

Oberlin, Ohio - Following a high-scoring opening half, the Oberlin College men's basketball team rolled past Wilmington 83-75 on Sunday afternoon. Following the non-conference victory, the Yeomen improve to 6-5 on the season.

Leading the Oberlin offense, sharpshooter Zach Smith registered a career-high 28 points. Appearing in 33 minutes, the senior guard also added three rebounds and a pair of steals. Milun Micanovic recorded a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Sam Kamenko and Rob Magner each finished with 13 points apiece and a combined nine rebounds.

Kamenko launched scoring action for the Yeomen on the opening possession, followed by a jumper from Smith. Holding a slight 8-6 lead, Oberlin produced a 7-0 surge capped off by a dunk from Micanovic at 14:40.

Going 4-5 in the first half from behind the arc, Smith continued to power the Crimson and Gold's commanding advantage. Following a layup from Smith, the Yeomen held their largest edge of the period with a 45-20 lead at 2:27.

Back-to-back layups from Micanovic extended Oberlin's lead to 49-27 in the early minutes of the second half. Trailing 54-35, Wilmington reduced their margin with seven unanswered points, shortly followed by another 8-0 rally to cut the deficit to six points at 10:45.

Maintaining as little as a four-point advantage, the Yeomen worked their way up to a 12-point edge, followed by a layup and free throw from Smith with 5:07 remaining. The opponents continued to exchange scoring as a final fastbreak layup from Augustus Donohue clinched the final points for Oberlin, securing the 83-75 victory.

"It was a great team win today to end our first semester. Four guys in double figures and so many guys made big plays," Head Coach Shiva Senthil adds. "Credit to Wilmington for never letting us get comfortable, but proud of our guys for pulling through. Now time to get healthy before a huge second-semester push."

The Yeomen will return to Philips on Monday, December 29, when they host Kalamazoo for their last game of the 2025 year. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
