Crawfordsville, Indiana - Traveling to the Hoosier State for a North Coast match-up, the Oberlin College men's basketball team delivered a strong second half, taking Wabash to overtime. Ultimately falling 82-78, the Yeomen shift to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
At the forefront of the Oberlin offense, Milun Micanovic registered a season-best 18 points and eight rebounds while Adam Navarre posted 13 points and five rebounds. Finishing with double-digit points for the fourth time this season, Rob Magner recorded 10 points and a pair of steals.
Sam Kamenko produced nine points and nine rebounds while also leading the Crimson and Gold passing game with five assists. The rookie also added a match-high five steals to pair with his strong defensive campaign.
Opening scoring on the opening possession, Matt Andreopoulos drained a three after receiving a pass from Zach Smith. Tied at 5-5, Wabash notched back-to-back three pointers to secure an 11-5 advantage. Maintaining a slight deficit at 16-14, Zach Bronson sent the ball to Navarre, who made the shot from behind the arc to regain the lead.
The Little Giants responded with their own three-pointer before a jumper from Jackson Reynolds tied the opponents for a second time in the match. Wabash delivered nine unanswered points, allowing them to maintain the edge for the remainder of the half, going into the break with a 35-29 advantage.
Returning to the court from the locker room, Smith sank a long-range shot on the first possession to help Oberlin close the gap. Magner posted back-to-back three pointers, allowing the Yeomen to pull ahead of the hosts with a narrow 40-39 lead. Navarre, Milun, and Kamenko all contributed to a 7-0 surge, giving Oberlin their largest edge of the night with a 10-point advantage. The Crimson and Gold maintained the lead for over 15 minutes until a long-range buzzer beater from the Little Giants' Rich Brooks forced a five-minute overtime period.
Andreopoulos notched a layup followed by a pair of free throws from Milun to open the session with a 4-0 lead for the Yeomen. A three-pointer from Brooks cut the Wabash deficit to one, followed by a pair of free throws that clinched the lead for the opponents at 2:06. Ultimately, the Little Giants were able to maintain the advantage, securing the 82-78 overtime victory.
Oberlin returns to Philips for a midweek conference match when they host Denison on Wednesday, December 10. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
