Final Results
Holland, Michigan – The Oberlin College women's tennis team began day one of the Great Lakes College Association tennis tournament today. The Yeowomen fell to the hosts, Hope College, by a 5-1 decision.
Due to inclement weather, all Friday matches were played indoors at the DeWitt Tennis Center on the Hope College campus.
In singles action the Yeowomen's ace,
Ariel Lewis, continued to show her dominance. The No. 1 slot was a match-up of regionally ranked opponents, Lewis at #18 and Samantha Stille, #26. Lewis would win the match 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).
OC (10-7) had trouble with the Central Region's 15th ranked team. All three Oberlin pairings fell in doubles action. Seniors
Olivia Hayden and
Kelly Sipp were in a tight match before losing the tiebreak (9-8 (7-5)).
Three singles matches would go unfinished as the Flying Dutchmen earned the deciding fifth point before they concluded.
Oberlin is in action again this evening taking on Albion College, 11th ranked in the Central Region and the Yeowomen will challenge Kalamazoo College Saturday at 9 a.m.
