Final Results
Gambier, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis team was looking to stay perfect in the NCAC East as they took on Kenyon College this evening in an indoor dual match. The Ladies would spoil the day as they defeated the Yeowomen 6-3.
Kenyon, 14th ranked in the Central Region, took a 2-1 lead following doubles action. The Yeowomen partnership of seniors
Olivia Hayden and
Kelly Sipp were winners in the No. 2 spot as they downed Eva Ceja and Molly Yost 8-2. At the No. 1 and 3 slots the Ladies would earn 8-4 and 8-1 victories, respectively.
“Kenyon just played better tennis this evening, they outplayed and out competed us in many of the matches tonight. We will hopefully learn from this match as we prepare for the upcoming conference tournament,” noted head coach
Constantine Ananiadis.
In singles action first-year
Ariel Lewis continues to be a dominating presence in the NCAC at the No. 1 spot. Tonight she earned her 19th dual match win and fourth in a row in a straight set match over Prita Kidder, (6-2, 6-3).
Nattie Chan was the other Yeowomen to claim a win tonight. In her match at No. 4 she won the first set 6-1 before falling by the same score to Ceja, then came back to claim the win with a third 6-3 third set. Chan is also on a four-match win streak.
The Yeowomen found themselves in several of the other matches but were unable to come up with wins at crucial points in the matches.
Olivia Hayden fell 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2. In the No. 5 slot
Finley Gates lost in three sets after winning the first 7-6 (7-4). Senior
Jane Hayden lost a tight straight set match at No. 6 (7-6, 7-5).
The Yeowomen (12-11, 2-1 NCAC East) will look to regroup through the remainder of the week as they prepare for the NCAC tournament. Oberlin will again travel to Kenyon College this weekend participating in the tournament Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26.
