Oberlin Rolls Past Case and Otterbein

Ariel Lewis has a seven match win streak
Final Results vs. Case
Final Results vs. Otterbein

Oberlin, Ohio
– The Yeowomen tennis squad improved to 6-3 with a pair of victories today defeating Case Western Reserve University and Otterbien College by scores of 9-0 and 7-2, respectively. Senior Sarah Teitelbaum, Oberlin's No. 4, provided the clincher this evening winning Oberlin's fifth point in the match with Otterbein by defeating Chelsea Ferrin (6-4, 6-2).

During the morning match up with Case, Oberlin swept doubles play with ease. The senior duo of Kelly Sipp and Olivia Hayden cruised to an 8-3 win over the Spartan's Marta Worwag and Cheyenne Chambers. The first-year partnership of Ariel Lewis and Finley Gates also grabbed an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles for their fourth win of the spring season.

In singles play Oberlin was able to work a couple of freshman into the line up at the No. 5 and 6 spots. Rebecca Brown notched a 6-1, 6-3 win over Claudia Nieuwoudt and Emily Thebaut outlasted the Spartan's Emily Hoffman, 3-6, 6-4, 10-4.

At the No. 2 singles slot, Sipp got back to her winning ways. After dropping the first set 7-5, she came out strong in the second taking a 6-1 win and used a 12-10 win in the third set super tiebreaker to hand Chambers the loss.

“I feel really good about how the team is playing,” said head coach Constantine Ananiadis “We are getting the results we need and I am excited to see how well this team can do this year.”

The match between Oberlin and Otterbein had a similar feel to last season's meeting, however, the Yeowomen turned the tables after falling behind 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play. Securing victories in all six singles slots allowed OC to avenge the loss from a season ago in which they were only able take home one win during sigles.

Lewis has extended her win streak to seven matches by defeating the Cardinal's No. 1 Brittany Riggs (6-1, 7-5) ending her win streak at three. Oberlin's O. Hayden and Sipp handled their respective foes with ease at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

To finish out singles play first-years Nattie Chan and Gates each won third set super tiebreakers to finish strong for the Yeowomen.

Ananiadis also noted, “It was a good win for girls this afternoon. The team stayed focused, determined and had a competitive spirit in both efforts today.”

Oberlin (6-3) will have time off to continue to fine tune their play as they do not return to the court until March 11 when the Yeowomen travel to Ohio Northern University for a 4:30 p.m. match.
