Christa Wagner ’08

Christa Wagner ’08

Summary

Biography

We have thought of calling the over achiever police on Christa, but she talked us out of it.  For her, this is just life as normal. She has just finished her PhD in Cellular and Molecular Medicine with a focus on immunodeficiency in an inherited premature aging disorder called the Telomere Syndromes. She currently a legislative annalyst at the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Free time? She claims to have some and spending it running the hills and the harbor in Baltimore. She also likes rock climbing and visiting local breweries and wineries.

Remembering the strength and importance of her own memories as an Oberlin athlete are what drew Christa to the Board of the Heisman Club.  She is also deeply committed to healthcare and access to facilities that promote a healthier campus for ALL students.

Christa calls her Oberlin teammates a second family.  She remembers a tradition from fall break, when most other students were gone. The cross country team would stay on campus to train. One night during the break, they would get together, cook a meal, get all dressed up and take prom pictures. She recalls it was a nice way to get to know each other and have fun on an otherwise quiet campus.

“I used to think I would easily find ways to keep my speed and be competitive in track meets after leaving college. Now I think the access to track facilities and dedicated coaches was a great privilege and reaching that level of fitness outside of the collegiate environment is not a walk in the park!”
