Box Score Oberlin, Ohio - In their first conference match of the season, Oberlin College women's tennis faced off against No. 32 Denison in a home match. Despite their fiery spirits on court, the Crimson and Gold did not prevail over Big Red, losing 7-0. This loss puts a stop to the team's three match winning streak, turning their 2026 record to 4-2.
In doubles, the sophomore duo, Scarlett Kingston and Eva Lopez, played at No. 1. Though they put up a good fight, the pair lost 6-1. Freya Rahm and Hannah Soong gained a stronger foothold on court two, but lost the doubles set 6-3. Stella Kollmansberger and Olivia Wollner kept up with their opponents in a back-and-forth set. The doubles teams traded service games up until they were tied 4-4. Unfortunately, the last two games did not go in their favor and they fell in a 6-4 loss at No. 3.
Down 1-0, the women's team braced for some tough singles matches. Lopez dropped her first set 6-0. In the second set, she made some changes and was neck-in-neck at 3-3 before her opponent, Dasha Chistyakova, ended the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-3. Rahm at No. 4 singles performed well, showing off her three years of collegiate experience and skills, however she lost 6-2, 6-2. Despite her steely focus and the closely contested points throughout the match, Kingston at No. 2 singles also fell 6-2, 6-2 a few minutes later.
At 4-0, the dual match was decided, nevertheless, the remaining singles spots fought hard on each of their courts. Kollmansberger at No. 1 singles took a 6-2, 3-1 lead. But Dension's No. 1, Peyton Oda, slowly clawed her way back to down 5-4. In a massive shift of momentum, the Big Red stole three games to close the second set and won the resulting tiebreaker 10-6.
At No. 5 singles, Wollner performed well at the baseline, slugging several massive forehands, but the squad's momentum was all but gone and the sophomore lost 6-0, 6-0. Soong also put up a fight in her own match, nonetheless, the Chicago native lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Oberlin looks to bounce back in their next match, a home contest next week on Saturday, March 14. The Crimson and Gold are set to play Capital at 11 a.m.
