Greenwood, Indiana – Four student-athletes on the Oberlin College volleyball team earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.
Iris Archibald,
Lucy Goebel,
Jillian Jendsen, and
Josie Macdonald earned the accolade for the first time in their careers.
Archibald boasts a team-best 4.11 cumulative GPA and is pursuing a degree in Psychology. The junior libero played in all 25 matches this season and crossed the 1,000-dig milestone during the away match at Kalamazoo.
A sophomore from Ann Arbo, Michigan, Goebel had a breakout season starting in 21 of 22 games played. The middle blocker collected 41.0 points from 12 block assists, and three solos.
The first of two seniors to earn the prestigious honor, Jendsen led the team with 413 assists and 35 aces this season. An economics major, the senior is set to graduate in the spring after a four-year career.
A biology major, senior Macdonald collected 195.5 points this season, finishing her career with 466.5. The outside player clocked nine games in the double-digits, with seven games of at least ten digs.
"We're very proud of Iris, Lucy, Jillian, and Josie for working hard in the classroom and prioritizing their academics, as much as they do their team. The dedication to their studies is a snapshot of the work ethic that exists on this team." Head Coach
Jasmine Brown said in a written statement.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the pitch and in the classroom. To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic status and either competed in 90% of the team's sets or started in at least 66% of matches while maintaining a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average.
