Oberlin Sweeps Wilmington in Non-Conference Finale

Delaware, Ohio - Following a commanding offensive production, the Oberlin College volleyball team defeated Wilmington (25-23, 25-21, 25-20) in the penultimate match of their regular season on Tuesday evening.

The first-year duo of Mara Geiger and Brylie Peters paced the Oberlin attack with ten kills and three aces apiece while senior Zeynep Kaya registered eight kills. Sophomore Genna Gauthier led the passing effort with 15 assists, while senior Jillian Jendsen added 14 assists and three aces.

Performing well from the backline, Kaya produced a match-high 13 digs while classmate Iris Archibald finished with eight. Contributing to the Oberlin defense, Peters and Alira Allen teamed up to block the Wilmington attack.

Trailing 9-7 in the opening set, the Crimson and Gold delivered a six-point offensive surge to claim a 13-9 edge over the Quakers. Wilmington responded with a 5-1 rally to level the match. Tied at 16-16, Oberlin dished out a four-point effort to pull ahead of the opponents. The Quakers battled to come within one of the Yeowomen, but Gauthier connected with Peters to claim the first set.

Tied at 12-12 in the second frame, Oberlin notched five unanswered points to extend their lead to 17-12. The hosts matched the effort, reducing the margin to 21-20 as the Crimson and Gold delivered one final push to secure the second set.

Maintaining a slight 6-5 deficit in the third session, a pair of Wilmington errors launched the momentum for Oberlin as they followed with a pair of kills from Allen and a kill from Kaya. Administering their strong offensive action of the night, the Crimson and Gold added 13 kills on 35 swings to clinch the three-set sweep over Wilmington.

"We're happy with how the team bounced back after a tough match against OWU," Head Coach Jasmine Brown adds. "This win will help build momentum and confidence for us going into our final regular-season match against Kenyon."

Oberlin will conclude their regular season on the road when they face Kenyon on Saturday, November 8. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
