English Rests 10th After Day One of NCAC Heptathlon

Wooster, Ohio - Oberlin College first-year Xavier English sits in 10th place with 2109 points after four scored events of the North Coast Athletic Conference Combined Events Championships on the campus Wooster. 

The first-year from Chino Hills, California, got the festivities underway with a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.78 to earn 625 points. He would add 565 tallies to his total with an eighth-place showing in the long jump with a mark of 19-04.25 (5.90m).

The rookie tied for seventh in the shot put at 31-06.50 (9.61m), securing 462 points in the event. In the closing high jump, he tied for 11th with a mark of 5-02.50 (1.59m) to add 427 points to his total. 

Wabash freshman Jake Oostman leads the 14-person field with 2,585 points with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000 meters still to come tomorrow starting at 1:15 p.m. The women's pentathlon will also commence tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. and feature Oberlin's Clare Tiedemann, Aimee Watts, and Hayden Hill.
