Geneva, Ohio – In the finals of the 3000m Steeplechase, Oberlin College track and field senior
Walter Moak raced to an 11
th place to earn Second-Team All-American honors.
After qualifying for the 3000m SC finals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Moak opened up the first 200m of the finals at the front of the pack. The senior held his place through the first 1000m, before falling back to second in the next split.
The race continued to speed up, and while Moak maintained his pace, Wisconsin La Crosse's Joey Sullivan pulled ahead to lead the pack. After a gruesome 2600m, Moak crossed the finish line at 9:10.87 for 11
th overall. His time this year was ten seconds faster than his race at last season's NCAA Championships.
With a top-12 finish, Moak earns NCAA Second-Team All-American honors for the second-straight year in the 3000m Steeplechase.
The Crimson and Gold see their third and final athlete,
Namu Makatiani, compete tomorrow, Saturday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m. in the Triple Jump event.
