Geneva, Ohio – Competing on the final day of Division III competition, Oberlin College junior jumper,
Namu Makatiani earned Second-Team All -American honors at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
In a dramatic first flight, Makatiani launches 14.81m in his first leap to set a new personal best and break his own school record of 14.72m. The junior sensation jumped 14.77m on his second mark, again out-performing his own best previous to the national competition.
In his final attempt, Makatiani went 14.51m to finish fourth in his heat. As the second flight got underway, it came down to the final jumper, Jaidyn Williams, who cleared 15.08m to overtake the Obie for a ticket to the finals competition. While not making the final, Makatiani set history at the NCAA Championships with a school record and his second-career All-American honors.
Makatiani and the rest of the track and field teams take a well-deserved summer rest before welcoming an impressive incoming class of more than 25 athletes.
