Greenwood, Indiana – Ten athletes from the Oberlin College track and field team earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Honors.

On the women's team, Heather Benway, Camila Ciembroniewicz, Anna Fritz, Caleigh Lyons, and Ryley Steggall were recognized for their academic success.

Jonah Barber, Cole Fuller, Namu Makatiani, Walter Moak, and Liam Newman were the five athletes named to the list from the men's team.

The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic status and either competed in 90% of the team's sets or started in at least 66% of matches while maintaining a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average.

Benway, a two-sport athlete with All-Conference honors in both disciplines, earns her fourth CSC academic honor. The jumper, who hails from Sequoia, California, just graduated with a degree in Neuroscience this spring.

The team leader in the 400m, Ciembroniewicz finishes her career with her first CSC academic honor. The Studio Art and Latin Americans Studies major anchored the 4x400 team that placed third in the NCAC Indoor Championships this year.

Fritz earned her first CSC academic nod after her junior season saw her earn personal bests in the 55m Hurdles and the Triple Jump. The Neuroscience major placed fourth in the 4x100 relay and eighth in the Triple Jump at the NCAC Outdoor Championships in May.

In her final season, Lyons nabbed her first All-District nod after placing 5th in the 3000m Steeplechase at the NCAC Outdoor Championships. The Arlington, Massachusetts native's time of 11:40.69 in her last race was good enough for a personal best.

Steggall's first All-District nod comes after securing a bronze medal alongside Ciembroniewicz, Sage Serraino, and Yrva Desormeaux in the 4x400 relay at the NCAC Indoor Championships. The Oberlin, Ohio native, who is majoring in Psychology and Law and Society, finished fourth in the 4x100 relay at the NCAC Outdoor Championships.

Barber snagged his first CSC academic honor in the same season that he was named to the AllState NACDA Good Works Spring Team. The distance runner from Tucson, Arizona, was recognized for volunteering to teach Spanish to elementary school students.

Moak earned his third CSC academic award after placing 11th in the 3000m Steeplechase at the National Championships in May. The Virginian, who graduated this spring with a degree in Musical Studies, finished his career with seven conference titles across multiple events, including three in the 3000m Steeplechase, two in the Mile, and one in the Distance Medley Relay and the 1500m, respectively. Moak was also named a second-team All-American after his performance at nationals.

Makatiani joined Moak in competing at the national stage, where the Nairobi, Kenya native finished 10th in the country with a 14.81m leap in the triple jump. Makatiani, a Biology major, earned his second consecutive CSC academic honor to go along with his second-team All-American accolade.

In his final season, Fuller earned his first CSC academic honor after he rounded out the Oberlin corps competing at national championships. The Biology major from Chicago finished 18th in the 400m hurdles.

Newman, a Law and Society major, wrapped up his junior season with a personal record and a bronze medal at the NCAC Outdoor Championships in the 3000m Steeplechase, which placed two Yeomen in the top three finishers.

Benway, Ciembroniewicz, Lyons, Barber, Moak, and Fuller have passed the torches to Fritz, Steggall, Makatiani, and Newman to lead the track and field team next season. Newman will be back in action this fall for the cross country season, while Fritz, Steggall, and Makatiani will be preparing for the indoor track and field season.
