Yeowomen Split Pair Matches on the Road

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 York, PA- On the road for the road for a doubleheader day, the Yeowomen volleyball team took on the York (PA) Spartans and the Catholic Cardinals on Saturday, September 4. Oberlin fought hard but early match deficits caused trouble and Oberlin dropped their first match against York 25-12, 25-9, 23-25. A different story in the match against the Cardinals, the Yeowomen won in a fifth set rally, 17-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 15-8. At the end of the day, the Yeowomen secured their first victory and move to 1-3 on the season.

In the first game against York, freshman Natalie Dufour led the Yeowomen effort with four kills, while Natasha Radic added ten assists to go along with a trio of kills. Julia Hall chipped in with in with three kills and eight assists. 

Lindsey Felton, Bella Woods, and Dufour each tallied a service ace as the defense tallied 13 digs.

Both the opening and second sets seemed to play out in similar fashion with the Yeowomen falling behind early and struggling to catch up. The Spartans came out on top with scores of 25-12 and 25-9, respectively. The third set was a different story as the Yeowomen seemed to find their momentum and battled to the final point. Too little, too late for Oberlin as the Yeowomen came up short in a hard fought third set, 23-35.

The second match proved to be a closer fight for both Oberlin and Catholic as the teams swapped wins over the first and second sets. The Cardinals took the first set by a score of 25-15, while the Yeowomen too the second set 25-23. The next two sets played out identical, with Catholic winning #3 25-19 and Oberlin coming out on top in extra points, 26-23. It took a fifth set to determine the winner and in 15-8 fashion, the Yeowomen came out on top.
 
First-year Andréa Jones led the Yeowomen offense with an impressive, team-high 23 kills and 60 assists. Iyanna Lewis added to the team's success with another 13 kills on top of 28 digs. Woods led the team in service aces with two and Lauren Sands and Moo DeHaro added one apiece.
 
On the defensive end, DeHaro tallied 22 digs, while Sands and Jones chipped in 14 and 12 digs, respectively.
 
The Yeowomen take the court again on Wednesday, September 8 for their home opener against Capital. First serve will take place at 7pm with live stream available here and live stats available here.
