Maddy Dunn had eight kills and five assisted blocks.
Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio – It was a seesaw battle all match long, but in the end the visiting SUNY-Geneseo Knights were able to sneak past the Oberlin College Yeowomen in straight sets, winning 25-20, 33-31, and 29-27.

With the setback the Yeowomen fell to 2-4 on the young season, while the Knights remained perfect, increasing their mark to 5-0.

The Yeowomen used a balanced attack as six different players had at least three kills in the match. First-year Claudia Scott led the way with nine finishes, while Maddy Dunn added eight.

In the thrilling second set the Yeowomen appeared to be in control as they led 20-16, but a string of six straight points by the Knights forced Head Coach Erica Rau to call two timeouts to try and slow down the run. The strategy worked, as the Yeowomen were able to square the set and force the Knights to extend the match beyond the 25-point mark.

Both teams fought tooth-and-nail to win the game as Oberlin had four game-point opportunities in the closing moments, but was unable to secure the win. An ace from Meredith Leung made it a 31-30 Yeowomen advantage, but the Knights responded with three straight points to steal the set.

In the third set the Yeowomen's hopes looked bleak as they trailed 17-12 midway through the set, however the team displayed its resiliency, fighting all the way back to tie it at 17. Oberlin would later trail 22-19, but rallied once again to grab a 25-24 lead on one of Ave Spencer's seven kills in the match. Unfortunately, the Yeowomen could not extend the match to a fourth set as the Knights fended off the threat to complete the straight-set victory.

The Oberlin frontline impressed at the net tonight, totaling eight team blocks. Dunn and Spencer each had five assisted blocks to lead the way. On the backline Molly Powers registered 15 digs, while Leung added 10 digs to go along with 30 assists.

The Yeowomen go right back to work tomorrow afternoon when they host Franciscan University at 3 p.m.
