Box Score Meadville, PA – Oberlin volleyball lost a close one to the Allegheny Gators in their third North Coast Athletic Conference bout of the season, 3-1 (23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22).
The Yeowomen took the first point in game one but the Gators quickly gained control and kept it. The Yeowomen pulled the score even five times but could not claim the lead as Allegehney went on to win, 23-25.
The second frame went to Allegheny before the Oberlin women ignited offensively and stole away the third set. The two sides exchanged the lead in the early stages until the Yeowomen went on an 11-6 run to close out the set, 25-20.
In the fourth, the Oberlin couldn't conjure up enough offense to force a fifth set as the Gators edged out the Yeowomen, 25-22, to end the match.
Two underclassmen hitters led the offense against the Gators with a pair of double digit kills. First year
Claudia Scott registered 13 kills followed by sophomore
Hannah Tyburski's 12.
Opening up the Oberlin attack were setters,
Megan Cox and
Meredith Leung. The freshman-senior duo finished with 25 and 19 assists respectively.
Junior
Molly Powers led the way in digs with 23 as junior
Shavonne Stanek and sophomore
Krista Langhans both hit double-figures with 11 and 10 respectively.
The loss moves Oberlin volleyball to 4-13 on the year and 0-3 in the NCAC.
The Yeowomen will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the weekend to take on La Roche College and Penn St. Behrend. The Oberlin ladies will battle the Penn St. Behrend Lions on Saturday, October 4 at 2 p.m. followed by their matchup with La Roche at 4 p.m.
