Wooster, Ohio – Oberlin women's volleyball struggled in the first day of action at the College of Wooster Kilt Classic, falling to North Coast Athletic Conference foe Wooster, and Bluffton.

Oberlin surrendered a 3-1 (23-25, 25-27, 30-28, 19-25) defeat to the Fighting Scots while the Beavers dropped the Yeowomen in straight sets, 19-25, 13-25, 11-25.

The Yeowomen and Scots duked it out in the first three sets to open action at the Kilt Classic. Oberlin hung tough but could not outlast the Wooster offensive attack.

Junior Maddy Dunn, who tallied 11 kills, led Oberlin offensively against the Scots. Sophomore setter Meredith Leung led the team in assists with 23.

On the defensive side, Molly Powers led the way with 16 digs followed by Leung and first-year Claudia Scott who each registered eight.

Unlike Wooster, Bluffton never gave the Yeowomen a chance. The Beavers kept the pressure on from the start and did not let up.

Sophomore Ave Spencer led Oberlin offensively against the Beavers with five kills. Leung was limited to just 12 assists, while Powers hit double digits again with 10 digs.

With the pair of losses, the Yeowomen move to 3-6 overall. Oberlin volleyball will return to action tomorrow as they take on Franciscan University and Muskingum University at day two of the Kilt Classic.

The Yeowomen's match against Franciscan will be a rematch of their September 6 showdown when Oberlin emerged victorious in four sets.
