Oberlin looks to regroup on Saturday at Hiram.
Box Score

Meadville, PA - The Oberlin College men's basketball team got off to a slow start and was never able to recover as the Allegheny College Gators upended the Yeomen 73-61 on Wednesday night at the David V. Wise Center.

The Yeomen came out ice cold, going over six minutes before finally getting on the board to make it a 13-2 Allegheny lead. Oberlin was later staring at a 23-4 deficit, but chipped away at the margin to make it a 32-20 game with 4:25 left in the half. Unfortunately, the Gators would go on to close the frame with a 10-2 run to take 42-22 cushion into the locker room.

Things need really improved for the Yeomen in the second half as they managed to get no closer than 16 points until the closing moments of the game. Oberlin hindered its own cause for much of the evening, turning it over 19 times which translated into 27 Allegheny points.

The miscues resulted in Allegheny attempting 23 more shot attempts than Oberlin. The Gators were 26-of-64 shooting for a 40.6-percent clip. Oberlin hoisted 41 shots - making 20 for a 48.8-percent mark.

The Yeomen had no answer for Ryan Stanko who scored 22 points off the bench to lead a trio of Gators in double digits. Geoff Simpson led all scorers with 24 points, while Jack Poyle added 11 for the Yeomen. Randy Ollie contributed eight points and nine rebounds in the setback.

The Yeomen fell to 6-16 overall and 3-12 in the NCAC. The victory was Allegheny's second of the season in conference play as it is now 5-17 overall and 2-13 in the league.

Oberlin will try to quickly forget about this one and go right back to work in preparation for Saturday's showdown at Hiram. Tip-time is set for 3 p.m.
