Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College volleyball team lost a four-set decision to the visiting Capital University Crusaders on Wednesday night at Philips Gym.
After falling in the first set 25-17, Oberlin bounced back to take the second set in thrilling fashion by a 28-26 count. Unfortunately, the Yeowomen were unable to keep the momentum in their favor, losing the next two games by the scores of 25-19 and 25-11.
First-year
Jillian Hostetler led the Oberlin attack by tying a career-high with 10 kills. Freshman classmate
Hannah Tyburski added nine finishes, as did junior
Christine Antonsen.
Rookie
Meredith Leung had 35 assists and added 10 digs in the loss. On the backline sophomore
Molly Powers registered 18 digs and also dropped in a team-best four service aces.
With the loss, Oberlin fell to 4-8 on the season, while Capital improved to 9-6.
The Yeowomen begin conference play on the road this weekend at Wittenberg and DePauw. The team will take on the nationally ranked Tigers of Wittenberg on Friday night at 7 p.m. before going to battle the DePauw Tigers on Saturday at 1 p.m.
