Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College volleyball team picked up its second straight five-set North Coast Athletic Conference victory by defeating The College of Wooster Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon. The Yeowomen later fell to Adrian College in straight sets.
With the league win Oberlin went over the .500 mark, sitting at 4-3. Overall the Yeowomen are now 10-16 on the season.
Against the Scots the Yeowomen fell in the first set 25-22. However, they won the second 25-17 before taking the third 25-23. Wooster would square the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth game, but the Yeowomen would not be denied, securing the match with a 15-11 win in the decisive fifth set.
First-year
Hannah Tyburski continued to impress as she racked up 15 kills in the win. Junior
Christine Antonsen added 10 kills, while sophomore
Maddy Dunn completed a trio of Yeowomen in double-digits with 11. Dunn was the most efficient of the trio, hitting .333.
It was a team defensive effort that allowed Oberlin to prevail as they finished with 84 digs in the match.
Molly Powers led the way with 24, while
Meredith Leung added 20 to go along with a career-high 49 assists.
Against Adrian the Yeowomen fell 26-24, 25-19, 25-19. Tyburski continued her attacking ways with 13 kills, while Antonsen chipped in with six.
Powers registered 11 digs in the loss, while Leung added nine digs and 30 assists.
The Yeowomen return to action on Wednesday night when they host Hiram College at 7 p.m.
