Yeowomen Knock Off Bishops; Fall to Ladies

– The Oberlin College volleyball team picked up their first North Coast Athletic Conference win of the season as they took care of Ohio Wesleyan University in four games on Sunday afternoon. The Yeowomen also fell to Kenyon College in four sets.

In the 25-12, 25-17, 21-25, 25-13 win over the Bishops, Oberlin hit .345 as a team and totaled 52 kills. Laura Jessee led the attack with 16 finishes, while Maggie Jacobson and Amanda Wysk added 12 kills apiece.

The offense was in rhythm throughout the contest as junior Liz Wong did a great job of putting her teammates in the right position, dishing out 45 assists along the way.

“It was a great all-around team effort,” Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh said. “Hopefully we can build off of this win and get things going in the right direction.”

The Yeowomen defense was also impressive as they totaled 47 digs, six blocks and a season-low three serve receive errors.

In their first match of the day, Oberlin fell to Kenyon 18-25, 25-21, 23-25, 14-25.

In the setback Wysk and Jessee combined for 25 kills.

In the set-two win, Oberlin hit .434 as a team with 12 kills on 23 total attacks.

The Yeowomen return to action next Saturday when they play host to Wittenberg University at 2 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.
