Final Results vs. Elmhurst
Crawfordsville, Ind. – The Oberlin College men's tennis team traveled to conference foe Wabash College today for matches against the hosts and Elmhurst College.
In the morning match versus the Little Giants, OC found the going to be tough and would eventually fall 6-3 to the hosts.
Oberlin notched its first win of the day at No. 1 doubles where
Ben Godlove and
Ben Turchin battled to an 8-5 win versus Peter Gunderman and Ian Leonard.
Godlove and Turchin would be the only Yeomen to earn victories in singles action. At No. 1 singles Wabash's Zach Lowry was defeated by Godlove in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Turchin was equally as impressive earning his first win of the spring at No. 2 singles. He and Gunderman would battle into the third set. After dropping the second set 7-6, Turchin earned the win with a 6-3 performance in the third set.
Elmhurst would prove to be a formidable foe by challenging Oberlin during the afternoon match. The Yeomen found themselves out in front at the conclusion of doubles action. Godlove and Turchin were winners again at No. 1, 9-7.
Sam Towne and
Joe Leffler put in a gutsy effort to earn a point at No. 3 doubles by defeating Justin Guenther and Jim White 9-8.
The Yeomen struggled to find the necessary winners during singles play. Godlove was again a straight set winner in the top spot and Leffter was victorious over Eric Moss. After falling behind a set he was a 6-3 winner in the second and then took the super tiebreak 10-1 at No. 3 singles.
Oberlin would drop matches at the No. 2, 4 and 5 positions all in super tiebreakers.
The Yeomen are back in action February 25th when they host Heidelberg University in John W. Heisman Field House. Action is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.
