Box Score

Delaware, Ohio -
Amanda Wysk recorded her 1,000th career kill to highlight Oberlin College's five-set win over Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday night. After dropping the first two sets 21-25, Oberlin won the next two sets 25-23 and finished with a 15-12 win in the decisive fifth game.

Wysk, who now has 1,005 career kills, had her best effort of the season as she finished off 18 of her 53 total swings. The senior from Big Bend, Wisconsin, also added 16 digs on the night.

OC also got strong offensive contributions from Laura Jessee and Anna Frackman as they combined for 26 kills. Setter Liz Wong had the offense clicking on all cylinders as she dished out 52 assists on the night.

The defensive effort was also outstanding as Oberlin recorded 101 digs in the match. Chinwe Okona led the way with 21, while Anna Frackman and Maggie Jacobson would add 20 and 19, respectively.

“We got great effort from everyone on the team tonight and were able to come away with a big win,” Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh said.

In the third game Oberlin trailed 18-14, but Lizzie Orfaly came off to bench to serve and spearheaded a comeback. She led the Yeowomen to five straight points – including one service ace – to get them right back in the match.

“I can't say enough about Lizze's play tonight and they way she able to get us in position to win was truly awesome,” Cavanaugh added.

After the victory in game three the Yeowomen carried over the momentum into the final two games, as they would never trail the rest of the way.

The team will have a busy weekend ahead, hosting an NCAC Play Date at Philips Gym with Hiram, Wooster and Allegheny. Oberlin will play Hiram (1:30 p.m.) and Wooster (4:30 p.m.) on Saturday and Allegheny (12 p.m.) on Sunday.
