Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College volleyball team had its three-match winning streak halted on Tuesday night as the visiting Bluffton Beavers outlasted the Yeowomen in five sets by the scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-17, 21-25, 15-8.
“We started slow tonight, but played pretty well once we settled down and got in rhythm,” Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh said. “I would really just like to see us be more consistent and trust our level of play throughout the whole match.”
Rookie
Laura Jesse was the most effective offensive player on the night as she hit .320 as with eight kills on 25 swings. Junior
Anna Frackman matched her with eight kills, while
Amanda Wysk ended with a team-high 12.
Senior capital
Rita Kaplon continued her impressive play with 36 assists. “I have been super impressed with the way Rita has been playing this season,” Cavanaugh added. “She has been making great decisions and has our offense really clicking.”
Oberlin had four players with double-digit digs with senior Tamela Platt leading the way with 22. Frackman added 15, while first-year
Chinwe Okona notched her second straight double-figure effort with 12.
The Yeowomen have a busy weekend ahead as they will take part in the first of two NCAC play dates with the first being at Allegheny College on Saturday and Sunday. First up for Oberlin on Saturday are Ohio Wesleyan and Kenyon.
