Hilton Head, S.C.
– On the final day in Hilton Head the Oberlin men's tennis team was overwhelmed by Whitman College, ranked 21st nationally.

Whitman (19-3) earned a 3-0 lead following a doubles sweep. OC's No. 1 pairing of Ben Godlove and Joe Leffler found themselves in the match but were unable to overcome Whitman's top duo, losing 8-6.

In singles action Godlove, 2-2 during the trip, was again in the match versus Quinn Miller, a battle for the first set ended with Miller on top 7-5. Quinn was able to pull away in the second set, winning 6-1.

The Yeomen's Elliot Heaton and Sam Towne put in good efforts on the day but a fourth straight day of tennis may have taken its toll on the newcomers as they both lost in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 5.

“We had a good week of tennis against excellent competition. I think we will be well prepared for our conference season when we return home,” commented head coach Adam Shoemaker.

Oberlin (0-12) travels back to Ohio after a day off and will next be in action Tuesday, March 31 when they host conference foe The College of Wooster at 4:30 p.m.
