Berea, Ohio – Competing Saturday evening at the North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville, Ohio the Oberlin College men's tennis team was defeated by Baldwin-Wallace, 9-0.
A young Oberlin squad took to the courts this evening without junior,
Ben Godlove, typically the Yeoman No. 1.
The Yeomen duo of first-years
Joe Leffler and
Peder Davis pushed B-W's Kucera and Lachman taking three games, but eventually fell 8-3.
B-W was able to capture straight set wins at all six singles slots. Oberlin freshman, Leffler, filling in at No. 1 was able to stretch his match taking three games in the second set but was still bested by Kucera, 6-1, 6-3. Fellow first-year
Sam Towne battled against the Yellow-Jackets' Redd, but he too fell short, 6-1, 6-2.
OC Head Coach, Adam Shoemaker said, “Tonight was a decent effort from a young team, everyone stepped up and competed without one of our better players.”
Oberlin falls to 0-4 on the year as Baldwin-Wallace improves to a perfect 4-0. The Yeomen have little time to recoup as they will open North Coast Athletic Conference play back on familiar turf as they host Ohio Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. in John W. Heisman Field House Sunday afternoon.
