Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's tennis teams was dealt a 9-0 setback at the hands of local rival Case Western Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans, who rank 15th in the Central Region, did not surrender a game in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles match-ups.
Oberlin did get a strong performance from
Ben Godlove in the first set of his No. 1 battle against John Smetona before succumbing by a 6-4 count, but Godlove was blanked in the second set – falling 6-0.
In the No. 1 doubles match Godlove and
Joe Leffler took three games from Adam Erickson and Paul Smetona, but eventually fell 8-3.
With the loss Oberlin falls to 0-3 on the year, while Case improves to 3-4.
The Yeomen will be off from competition till February 28 when they travel to Baldwin-Wallace for a 6:30 p.m. showdown.
