Oberlin, Ohio – A young Oberlin College men's tennis team had no answer for Malone University as they fell to the Pioneers 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Ben Godlove, the only returning letterwinner from last season's team played in the No. 1 position, but was upended by David Cairns 6-4, 6-1.

In the No. 5 meeting, James Blankenship gave Tim Frazier all he could handle, but eventually fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).

In the No. 3 doubles match-up Peder Davis and Igor Pancevski put up a tough fight in an 8-5 loss to Tim Springirth and Dan Fahl.

“We are a young team that obviously has a lot to work on,” head coach Adam Shoemaker said. “We are glad to finally get the spring started and look forward to improving each day.”

Oberlin will be in action tomorrow afternoon as they play host to local rival Case Western Reserve at 1 p.m.
