September 6 – The Oberlin College volleyball team played two well-balanced matches, but couldn't quite put it all together as they fell to Bluffton 3-0 and Transylvania 3-1.
“We are starting to play much better as a team,” head coach Carey Cavanaugh said. “It is just a matter of working to get better each day and playing a complete match.”
The Beavers handed the Yeowomen a straight-set defeat by the count of 25-19,25-14 and 25-23.
Building off of that last game against Bluffton, Oberlin took some confidence into their nightcap against Transylvania before succumbing to a 25-20, 25-20, 26-28, 25-13 setback.
Oberlin got strong play in the middle from all-tournament team selection
Maggie Jacobson as she totaled 13 kills on 30 swings. First-year
Sara Blankemeyer added six finishers of her own on 18 attempts.
Outsider hitters
Anna Frackman,
Courtney Konow and
Kaitlyn Moushon also added strong contributions throughout the match.
Oberlin travel to Bluffton on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The match will mark the third meeting between the Beavers and Yeowomen this season.
