September 26 – The Oberlin College volleyball team dropped their second conference match of the season as the reigning NCAC Champion Wittenberg Tigers dealt the Yeowomen a 3-0 defeat on Friday night.
The Tigers, who are ranked No. 8 in nation, won by the score of 25-14 in each of the first two games, before taking the third and final set 25-11.
“Wittenberg is obviously a very good team,” head coach Carey Cavanaugh said. “However, we definitely put ourselves in good position tonight by making the right decisions. We just need to execute a little bit better in order to capitalize on the opportunities we created.”
Oberlin's offense worked bested when it was filtered through middle hitters
Maggie Jacobson and
Sara Blankemeyer as both players hit .182 in the match on 11 swings each.
The Yewomen defense also played well – registering 35 digs on the night.
Oberlin will have a quick turnaround as it heads to Indiana to take on conference foe Earlham and non-league rival Manchester tomorrow afternoon.
