Box Score vs. Hiram l Box Score vs. Case
November 1 - The Oberlin College volleyball team concluded the 2008 season Saturday afternoon with a home tri-match against North Coast Athletic Conference foe Hiram College and Case Western Reserve.
The Yeowomen battled the Terriers to a 3-2 win during their first meeting October 11 at Hiram. This afternoon Oberlin would take the first set 25-21 with the team hitting a combined .298. Hiram would rebound to win sets two and three and eventually the match but not before the Yeowomen would make a strong case in the fourth set falling short by only four points (21-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-21).
Sophomore outside hitter
Amanda Wysk led the charge hitting .237 with 15 kills during the match against Hiram; fellow sophomore
Maggie Jacobson contributed 6 kills, 3 solo blocks and 2 block assists. Junior Setter
Rita Kaplon dished out 33 assists in the conference match.
Head coach Carey Cavanaugh said, “I am extremely proud of the effort this team has put forth this season, working to overcome youth and a rash of injuries. The team continued to grow and improve throughout and it showed as we won matches this year that past teams would not have been able to.”
In the nightcap OC took on Case Western Reserve. After a slow start in the first set the Yeowomen hit their way back into the match winning the second set 25-20 off the strong arms of Jacobson,
Sara Blankemeyer, and
Anna Frackman who had 8, 6 and 15 kills respectively. Case would however capture the match 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-16, 25-18).
First-year
Kaitlyn Moushon would finish the night with 40 digs, 15 against Case. Oberlin's only senior Mandi Van Allen finished the night with 13 digs.
The Yeowomen finish the 2008 season 7-24 overall and 6-10 in the NCAC a much improved conference record from a season ago.
