October 10 –
It was a great effort by the Oberlin College volleyball team, but in the end Allegheny College proved to be too much as it defeated the Yeowomen, 3-1, in NCAC action on Friday night.

After dropping the first game 25-16, the Yeowomen came on strong in the second as they came away with a 25-19 win. OC jumped out to an early 8-2 to lead, but the Gators battled back to claim a 17-16 advantage. However, Oberlin would not let the win slip away, closing the set on a 9-2 run.

First-year Sara Blankemeyer willed Oberlin to victory with five kills, hitting .200 in the frame. The dominant middle hitter also added three blocks, including a set of back-to-back blocks to secure the final two points of the match.

Unfortunately, the momentum for the Yeowomen was short-lived as the Gators jumped out to a 5-0 lead in set three and never looked back as they took control of the match with a 25-13 triumph, followed by 25-12 win in game four.

Anna Frackman led the OC offensive attack with 12 kills, hitting .208 on the night.

The Yeowomen have a short turnaround, as they will travel to Hiram tomorrow afternoon for a 1 p.m. conference battle.
