New Orleans, Louisiana – Four members of the Oberlin College track and field team earned Great Lakes All-Region honors, as announced by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Anna Fritz,
Namu Makatiani,
Liam Newman, and
Ella Wozek earned the athletic accolades in a myriad of events.
"Namu, Liam, Ella, and Anna each covered so many events this year while still performing at the top of their game in their specialties." Head Coach
Ben Wach said, "We are so thrilled for these four seniors to cap off their careers with recognition of the tremendous seasons they had."
Fritz, now a two-time USTFCCCA All-Region honoree finished eighth in the region in long jump, with a mark of 5.60m. The senior earned All-NCAC honors in the event during the postseason, finishing second overall at the NCAC Championships.
Grabbing All-Region laurels in triple jump and the 110m hurdles this season, Makatiani finishes his career as a ten-time All-Region athlete. He finished second at the NCAC Championships in the triple jump, plus he finished third in the region in triple jump, and sixth in 110m hurdles.
Newman, who finished sixth in the region in the 3,000m Steeplechase, earns his second-career All-Region honors. The senior grabbed bronze in his main event at the NCAC Championships. Newman graduates as a two-time All-Region athlete.
Rounding out the honors is Wozek, who earns her second-career All-Region honors. Fourth in the Great Lakes in the 800m race, the senior earned the North Coast crown at the NCAC Championships earlier this year. Wozek took home the only title for the Crimson and Gold.
While all four honorees are set to graduate next week, Oberlin welcomes a large first-year class and is set to have another exciting year.
