Gambier, Ohio – Leading the Oberlin College track & field team with a school record and runner-up performance in the long jump,
Anna Fritz catapulted the Crimson and Gold as one of the four All-Conference performances on the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Kenyon on Friday.
Jumping to a mark of 5.60m in her third attempt in the long jump, Fritz surpassed her previous personal best of 5.56m while also establishing a new program record. Beating the previous mark of 5.59m, set by Clare Tiedemann in 2022, Fritz finished second in the field to earn All-Conference honors.
"I am so thrilled. My favorite part of it all was seeing my teammates jumping up and down right beside me," Fritz adds. "It has been such an exciting long jump journey throughout the past four years, and their support is what made this possible."
Will Gordon led the way on the track, producing a 29-second personal best in the 10,000m of 32:39.10 to place third overall, collecting his first All-Conference track accolade.
In the discus, Abraham Cromartie V launched a toss of 40.21m to earn a 10th-place finish. Quinn Hardy continued her successful rookie campaign in the discus, placing sixth overall with a mark of 36.21m.
In his final NCAC Championship and coming off an impressive NCAC Combined Events performance, Kit Evans registered a personal best in the javelin with a mark of 46.43m to earn a sixth-place finish.
Back on the track in the 100m hurdle prelims, Fritz crossed the line in 15.35, qualifying for the final round tomorrow. In the 800m prelims, Ella Wozek clocked in a time of 2:19.53, placing sixth and advancing to the final round.
Cooper Tanski followed in the men's 800m, matching Wozek's sixth-place finish with a time of 1:56.27. Yrva Desormeaux ran to a fifth-place finish in the 400m hurdle prelims, running over a two-second personal best with a time of 1:06.50.
Simon Tang continued to improve on his personal best and Northern Mariana Island 400m hurdle record, recording a personal best of 58.14.
With the 3,000m steeplechase remaining as the final event of Day One, Char Purcell delivered a 12-second personal best of 11:16.85, placing second overall and earning All-Conference honors. Solana Pearl notched a 19-second personal best of 12:00.46, earning a ninth-place finish. Liam Newman followed in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, dipping just under his personal best with a time of 9:27.10 and finishing third to earn All-Conference accolades.
"I'm so proud of the team's effort today, and that effort was rewarded with some wonderful results! Starting the action off with a school record from Anna set a really exciting tone, and athletes across every event group were able to carry that momentum through the day," Head Coach Ben Wach continues.
The women's team sits in sixth place with 25 points, while the men's team wraps up the opening day in eighth place with 15 points. John Carroll leads the team standings in both the men's and women's field with 47 and 52 points, respectively.
The Crimson and Gold will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, May 1. Field events begin at 10 a.m. with running events slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
