Oberlin, Ohio – Competing in the final full regular-season weekend, the Oberlin College track & field team split competition between the Sparky Adams Invitational, hosted by Baldwin Wallace, and the Duane Gomez Invitational, hosted by Kenyon.
Finishing with 52 points, the men's team placed eighth out of 17 programs, while the women's team placed 11th out of 18 programs with 26 points.
Kicking things off on the track, Anna Fritz raced to a 15.22 in the 100m hurdle prelims, placing fifth and advancing to the finals. In the 3,000m steeplechase, Char Purcell grabbed eight points for Oberlin with a second-place finish, crossing the line in 11:44.12.
In the 4x100m relay, the quartet of Dylan Davis, Fritz, Yrva Desormeaux, and Sawyer Ramberg clocked in a time of 50.54, placing fifth overall. The men's relay saw Euan Uliassi, Armand Andry, Josiah Howard, and Suryansh Yadav produce a time of 43.31, the fastest recorded 4x100m relay time for Oberlin this season.
Liam Newman won the 3,000m steeplechase for the second time this season, less than one second off his personal best with a winning time of 9:28.27. In a field of 40 competitors, Amber Borofsky delivered a four-second personal best of 5:00.59 in the 1,500m, placing seventh overall. Finishing as the top rookie with a third-place finish, Cooper Tanski set a personal best of 3:57.29 in the 1,500m.
Returning to the track for the finals, Fritz placed third in the 100m hurdle finals, registering a personal record of 15.13. Finishing just outside of scoring position in the 400m, Armand Andry notched a season best of 50.13 to place ninth overall.
Oberlin grabbed the first two places in the men's triple jump, led by Namu Makatiani with a jump of 14.45m. Dane Mentore finished as the runner-up with a personal best of 14.07m, nearly a half a meter longer than his previous record.
Simon Tang collected another personal best and Northern Mariana Islands in the 400m hurdles, racing to a 58.80 to place seventh overall, beating his previous national record of 59.48.
In the 5,000m, Solana Pearl garnered an impressive 36-second personal best of 18:41.28, dipping under the 19-minute barrier for the first time. Ryan Faris posted an eight-second personal best of 15:35.29, placing 11th overall.
Oberlin closed out the day in Berea with the 4x400m as Ryley Steggall, Val Harris, Samantha Soto, and Ella Wozek crossed the line in 4:16.56 to place fifth overall. The men's relay of Tang, Tanski, Greydan Villano, and Simon Swai clocked in a 3:41.75, placing seventh.
Over in Gambier, Quinn Hardy placed seventh overall, earning two points for Oberlin and finishing as the top rookie in the field with a personal best of 38.43m in the discus.
The Crimson and Gold will resume action on Friday, April 24, at the Big Red Invitational, hosted by Denison. The first event is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
