Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College track & field team competed with a split squad this Saturday, with members of yesterday's DMR contesting individual events at the Wartburg Final Qualifier in Waverly, Iowa, while a separate squad traveled to Ada, Ohio, for the Polar Bear Final Qualifier, hosted by Ohio Northern.
Kicking things off in Ada, Simon Tang ran a debut best of 7.54 in the 60m dash.
Building on her momentum from the conference mile, Char Purcell ran a personal best of 2:33.01 in the women's 800m. Also following a strong conference performance,
Ella Wozek ran yet another 800m personal best, taking the heat win in 2:16.13, which places Wozek second on Oberlin's All-Time List.
Back in Waverly, Liam Newman started the day for the Yeomen with a personal best of 4:18.11 in the men's mile.
Cooper Tanski continued his progression in the men's 800m, running an even race to cross the line in 1:56.62. His mark moves him to third on Oberlin's All-Time List.
Rounding out the last chance weekend for the Crimson and Gold, Piers Shirk battled his way to a sixth-place finish in the men's 3000m.
Competition is largely finished for the indoor season, but the NCAA will announce the qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, hosted in Birmingham, Alabama, at the end of the weekend. The top 20 individuals in each event and the top 12 relay teams will qualify for the national meet.
