Cleveland, Ohio – The Oberlin College track & field team made the quick drive to Cleveland to compete at the Ed Finnegan Invitational, hosted by Case Western Reserve. Oberlin faced fellow NCAC member John Carroll, as well as Baldwin Wallace, Lorain County, and Ursuline. The women's team earned seven personal bests, while the men's team snagged six.
Women's weight throw kicked off the day with the trio of Kate Budde (8.11m),
Adriana Winkelmayer (10.36m), and
Mary Howell (11.20m) launching personal best marks.
Following her teammates, first-year Alira Allen hurled the shot put to a personal best of 8.90m.
Over on the runway, first-year Sarah Christie sailed to a personal best of 9.91m in the women's triple jump.
Feeling Christie's energy, Micah Quinones flew over the 12-meter barrier for the second time in his career, landing a personal best of 12.08m.
In the women's mile, first-year Mirabel Adams took her second heat win in two weeks, cruising to a personal best of 5:33.
The men's mile followed, where second-year Greydan Villano flew to a personal best of 4:40, closing with an impressive kick.
Raluchi Obioha (23.70) surged to a personal best in the men's 200m, breaking the 24-second barrier for the first time. Obioha was followed by
Andres Adam (24.36) and
Tanish Bommera (24.79), who have run very consistent personal bests this season.
Second-year Solana Pearl fiercely competed for a personal best of 11:16 in the 3,000m after outkicking her competitor in the final 200m of the race.
Grant Hirsch ran a gutsy race to take home a personal best in the men's 3000m, closing hard for a 9:21. Classmate
Toby Wells-Spackman also took home a personal best, grinding his way to a 9:42.
The Crimson and Gold return to competition tomorrow with the NCAC Combined Events Championships, kicking off the NCAC Championships. Oberlin heptathlete Kit Evans will travel to Wooster, Ohio, to compete in day one of the heptathlon on Saturday, February 21. Evans will be joined by pentathletes
Celia Vaughn,
Molly Button, and
Averi Williams on Sunday, February 22 for the second day of the heptathlon and the one-day pentathlon.
