Granville, Ohio - The third day of the NCAC Swimming and Diving Championships featured Oberlin College swim and dive sophomore,
Yoo Soomin, breaking the 100-yard breast record in prelims. Her 1:07.30 squeezes past Maura Selenak's '08 record of 1:07.58, set in 2005.
During the evening's final sessions, Leo Powers led the men's team with a stellar performance in the 100-yard butterfly. Finishing 11th in 49.82, Powers now owns the second-fastest time in program history. Teammate John Polylogidis touched in at 26th in the same event, with a time of 53.95.Â
On the women's side, teammates
Kendall McKelvey and
Kaylee Johnson took 23rd and 24th, respectively, with times of 1:01.84 and 1:03.12.Â
The 400-yard individual medley saw Miguel Siwady lead the Yeomen's charge, securing 11th (4:10.75), followed by teammates Phillip Cauwels in 23rd (4:35.16) and Julian Walls in 24th (4:36.49).Â
The Yeowomen saw Gretchin Lotter take 12th (4:54.45) in the same event, followed by
Katherine Noller in 15th (4:58.53).Â
Chahine Saïd put up a strong performance in the 200-yard freestyle, touching 8th in a time of 1:40.59, while Kye Marrero and Tyler Wang rounded out the event for the Yeomen in 23rd (1:47.92) and 27th (1:50.25). The trio of
Cam Maurer,
Hailey Hamilton, and
Addie Malley took 22nd (2:02.77), 23rd (2:03.82), and 24th (2:04.74), securing 15 points for the Yeowomen.Â
In the short-distance events, the 100-yard breast saw stellar performances from Charles Matia (57.46) and Zach Black (59.19). Matia's performance is the fourth-best in program history, and Black's performance slots him at 8th on the all-time rankings.Â
Three Obies placed in the top-25 in the 100-yard back. Led by James Moll in 17th (52.69), Martin Gomez (55.23) and Riley Conklin (55.34) tapped in at 24th and 25th, respectively.
Alongside Yoo,
Andie Kinstle sprinted the 100-yard breast in 1:12.37, earning 17th. Yoo's finals time of 1:08.50 earned her ninth overall and 24 points for the Crimson and Gold.
The women's 100-yard back saw five Yeowomen put up point-earning performances.
Maya Edwards finished in 17th (1:02.65), Malley in 20th (1:03.01), Yasmeen Boulaknadal in 21st (1:03.18), Hamilton in 22nd (1:04.87), and
Riley Galpin rounded out the pack in 25th (1:10.81).Â
On the diving boards, Sebastian Lagasse rounded out the Oberlin diving events for the Championships, placing 8th in the men's 1mtr event. The junior scored 298.50 during the finals, scoring just short of his 299.45 point total in the morning prelims.Â
In the final event of the day, 200-yard freestyle relay, the Yeomen team of Saïd, Black, Powers, and Moll saw a third-best program time of 1:24.44, finishing 6th. The women's team of Yoo, Lotter, Malley, and
Nyrobi Whitfield also touched in 6th with a time of 1:41.72.Â
The Crimson and Gold finished the day in 6th place on the women's side with 398 points, while the men finished in 7th with 471 points. Both teams splash in for one final day of championships tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., kicking off with the 100-yard individual medley.Â
